Full Moon in Scorpio – 28th April 2010

phoenixThe full moon in Scorpio gives us an opportunity to connect with those deeper, darker sides of ourselves. We all have a shadow side and this full moon will help illuminate, and allow us to love and release, those parts of us we may have disconnected from.

Scorpio is the eighth sign in the zodiac and is related to birth, death, transformation, sexual relationships, deeply committed relationships of all kinds, and magick and psychic abilities.

We get an opportunity with the Full Moon in Scorpio to bring healing into any of these areas.

What part of you have you cut off from?

What thoughts, feelings, attitudes have you disowned?

With the moon full in Scorpio it asks us to go inwards.

It asks us to seek out those places within us that hold fear and ‘get real’.

What lies have we told ourselves? Where do we wish things were different? Scorpio helps us to go into these fears and release them for good.

Just like the Phoenix bird rising up out of the ashes, Scorpio will help us transform our fears and those parts of us that are held in the dark. It will help us rise up and rebirth ourselves anew. The Scorpio full moon will help us connect to the power we hold within and to stop handing that power over to other people.

This is a great energy to use for releasing things out of your life that are not serving you any longer.

Preparing for a Full Moon Ceremony

Things you might need: a fire proof pot to toss the burning paper inside, candle, bowl of water (Scorpio is a water sign), smudge sticks for cleansing (or a Sacred Essence Room Spray), cinnamon and myrrh (in honour of the Phoenix bird).

  1. Create a sacred space. Smudge or cleanse your space so it is ready for ceremony.
  2. Write down the things you want to release or change on slips of paper.
  3. Remove any distractions before you begin – phone, tv, pets etc..

Full Moon Ceremony

  1. Open your circle with an opening prayer – invite your guides, angels, masters, or teachers to be at your side throughout the ceremony.
  2. Light one or more candles. Look to the skies. Breathe in the night air.
  3. One by one, read to self (or out loud) the words you have written on each slip of paper.
  4. Set your intention to release the item/addiction/attitude from your life. If you are doing this ritual with a group take turn reading your words. If these things are too personal to read out loud, read them silently to yourself.
  5. Toss the slips of paper into the fire one by one. Our words have power. Saying – “Be Gone” audibly and loudly can be very freeing.
  6. Thank the spirits.
  7. Put out the fire.
  8. Close the circle.

About the Phoenix Bird

When the Phoenix reaches the end of its life, it’s said to build itself a nest of aromatic spices such as cinnamon and myrrh. It then sets the nest and itself on fire and is burned to ashes. Shortly, the Phoenix rises again and begins its life anew. In some traditions, the new Phoenix gathers up the ashes of the old and takes them to Heliopolis to offer them to the Sun God.

While the Phoenix is traditionally associated mainly with rebirth – something rising from destruction to begin again, or the daily rebirth of the sun – it is also strongly connected with peace. In many tales, the bird lives only on dewdrops and never harms anything; rather its powers of healing and regeneration bring comfort and an end to suffering.
